EXPERIENCE

2002 - COFFEE CULTURE, HALIFAX. UK

I worked and ran the busy kitchen for the first ‘real’ coffee shop in my town. We served a simple sandwich and salad menu, producing an average of 100 servings over the 2 hour lunchtime period.

2006 - QUATTRO, CHRISTCHURCH. NZ

I trained and worked as a barista for 6 months on a working holiday visa. I was given basic training and an insight to the world of better coffee at C4Coffee.

2007 - COFFEE CULTURE, HALIFAX. UK

I became the cafe manager as well as running with their outside catering service, dealing with ordering, production, quality control, customer service, staff training, deliveries, etc.

2010 - EIGHT SIXTEEN COFFEE CO, HALIFAX. UK

I started as a simple hot coffee delivery business around the different offices and banks in my town and due to the overwhelming success and demand, I took over a failing cafe operation on a busy mill complex full of office worker, artists and other businesses.

With the help of my family we grew and increased the cafe takings by 250% to turn an average of £1500 (around 3000NZD) a day with 90% of this taken between

8am - 2pm.

2015 - DC COFFEE, HALIFAX. UK

To cope with the demands and to increase the overall income for my company I took over another failing cafe set up on site and created a smaller, express cafe that seated 30 people and was aimed at the take out trade. We increased the takings of this premises by 150% increasing our daily takings to an average of £2000 (4000NZD).

2016 - HAND OVER & EMIGRATION

Since informing my family that we will be emigrating, they decided to focus their efforts on our main site as, by the end of 2016, a further 900 office workers are moving into our section of the mill. I have handed over Eight Sixteen to the Billingtons and up until flying out I have been helping them get to grips with the managing and running of the company.

A LITTLE EXTRA

Alongside the business I started, I felt it right to start a project called ‘Tea For Two’ where a small donation from each cup of coffee put a meal on the table for children at a school in Brazil. Since starting we have provided around 300,000 meals, fully feeding the Living Word School everyday for the last 6 years.
